OB Pink Book

Catawba Women's Center is the first and only practice of its kind in the Catawba Valley Region. The practice was originally founded in 1972 and added midwifery services in 1998. Our practice model gives women the option of choosing a midwife for their obstetric and/or gynecological care. The midwives work collaboratively with physicians in the office and while on call at Catawba Valley Medical Center. This relationship allows for streamlined coordination of care, ensuring you get the highest level of care. We are the only midwifery practice in the Foothills area that offers 24/7 midwifery coverage to our patients during labor and birth.

Our practice is a collaborative one. That means our midwives and physicians work together as a team. What makes our practice unique is that women get the advantage of choosing a midwife for their obstetric or gynecologic care. If you choose a midwife for your care, you will have the opportunity to meet all of the midwives and one of them will always be available on call 24hrs a day. You will also get the reassurance that an excellent physician is available for consultation at all times. Collaborative care between midwives and physicians has overwhelmingly proven to improve the health outcomes of women and their infants.

All four nurse midwives at Catawba Women's Center are certified by the American Midwifery Certification Board and fulfill state requirements as advanced practice nurses. They hold full prescriptive authority and can prescribe medications when needed. They also routinely attend continuing education courses to stay up to date on the newest guidelines and recommendations in obstetric and gynecological care.
